Came here via arranged car from Satoyama Villa for the day. Masashi-san, the service manager and sommelier warmly welcomed us to our room, 203 that had a fireplace and was very spacious and comfortably heated.
We had sake tasting and Masashi-san carefully explained all the different types of sake from Miwatari and it was very interesting and we learn what is Junmai. We even got to try Junmai daiginjou which was made with three different rice and had incredible flavor.
After that we had barbecue for lunch and all the ingredients were locally sourced and carefully prepared. Hot sake was also prepared to complement the food which was incredible in the cold. Despite the coldness, the staff who took care of us were all smiles so we felt grateful.
After that, we tried onsens. Onsens here are a little special and not as hot as i’m used to. I actually like this better since i’m not being burnt haha. Spacious bath and Deep bath is highly recommended.
After that we had dinner and was again warmly served. We had the omotenashi meal and all the dishes were incredible. I have never eaten bear meat before so it was interesting. Overall, very satisfied with the full day arrangement.
I highly recommend people to come here even though it may be difficult. Staff english was very good so you will be well taken care of and winter period has many delicious fish incorporated into the meal.
The hotel layout and hardware are decent, However, According to the charge of the hotel, you will expect a little bit more better on meals and food.
Onsen. It's wonderful.
We spent four wonderful relaxing nights in this dream location in central Japan , as part of a two week visit. Our itinerary included Tokyo , Kyoto and Toba on the Mie peninsula coast.
Tobira Onsen Myojinkan was the ideal rural choice after four hectic days in Tokyo, before going on to Kyoto.. Welcoming and thoughtful staff, superb food and great Onsens .
Regular shuttle bus to nearby Matsumoto, allows easy exploring of the modern art gallery, castle great shopping .
Also many walks and treks from the hotel, if you have time .
This was the highlight of our trip and hope to return ago in the future .
Very impressive service and omotenashi from Myojinkan. Food is great, using mainly local produce. The wine pairing is well thought and interesting. The onsen is amazing.
A healing place for body and soul.
This resort and spa was gorgeous! The staff was considerate and attentive, and helpfully explained the amenities of our spacious, traditional-style Japanese room. We choose a suite for four with a private bath, and made extensive use of the six public baths available. The beautiful hot springs matched the pristine forests surrounding the resort. We were able to hike and relax before each delicious Japanese and French meal. I recommend this location 100%.
Amazing hotel. Good food. Very friendly staff. Tranquil setting
We checked out of Tobira Onsen Myojinkan two days ago and it has taken me that long to truly process how wonderful this property is. From check in (thank you Kawai-san) to check out it was a fabulous experience. We stayed in the Western Zen room on the third floor which was exquisite in decor, view and furnishings. I should say that my wife and I travel seven months of the year and know the difference. It has its own onsen bath, an unwordly view and the room had the benefit of being on the same floor as the executive lounge (also terrific) and the three separate onsens. We ate at both restaurants one for dinner and one for breakfast. The French restaurant, Sai, was as good as any Michelin starred meal we have had. We were helped by the very capable and cheerful Kamijo-san who was a delight. As a wine lover the highlight of my evening was chatting with Kurihara-san the sommelier and manager of the restaurant. We travel often just to visit wine regions but I admit my knowledge of Japanese wines was zero. Kurihara-san walked me through the different techniques for both the wines and local sakes of which we bought three bottles to take with us. It was an excellent experience. The Japanese breakfast was terrific as well with wonderful food and service and setting. There are many reasons that Relais and Chateau is by far our favorite hotel designation and Tobira Onsen Myojinkan captures all of them. Upon waking up in the morning, my wife's first words were "I'm never leaving here". A must visit if onsens and extraordinary service are your thing.
I have stayed with my wife for one night. I took the plan with half board. The French Japanese cuisine dinner is highly recommend. I still remember every plate they have served because it was so tasty and delicious.
Staff who served meal did very good job. They seem to know what we want and serviced just that.
Wine selection is also excellent. I never know there is such tasty Japanese wine. ( both red and white) they let us have wine by the glass so we could taste many different wine.
Food was served just right amount so when we finished we weren’t too full.
Hot spring bath has beautiful view over the river. Our room has very good taste of western and Japanese. It was very clean and roomy. If you are looking for good food, nice hot spring bath, friendly staff in Matsumoto, don’t look any further.
